This is absolutely my favorite image of the month...which is actually kind of funny, because I didn't love it when I first took it. I wanted their heads to be closer. I wanted him to be down closer to the sand like she was. I wanted it to look like they were working together, instead of next to each other. But the more I looked at it, the color, the light, the form, the more I realized that it was perfect exactly the way it was.
My daughter has these beautiful, red curls. Natural and bouncy. But also, tangley and knotty. Her father would love them to be long, but I refuse to fight with her over the hairbrush, so every six weeks or so, we have to trim them up.
My son found a big stick on the sand and he dragged it all over the beach.
Cupcakes are very big right now. Cupcake stores. Cupcake tattoos. Baking kits. Frosting kits. Cupcake, cupcake, cupcake. I'm a cake fan, so I admit, I've never met a cupcake I could walk away from, and these tiny little morsels of joy just popped right in. Handmade by my mother.....
March rolled in like a lamb along the coast. I wanted to get down to the jette and take some pictures of sunset. My family indulged me, and we sat for an hour watching the beautiful blue sky disappear into a fire of orange and red.
It's a constant effort to avoid the inevitable after-school argument about what has to be done before he can play on the computer. Sunny days make it easy, though. Come on! Let's go to the park. Let's play in the backyard. I know! Let's wash my car!! A win all around. I get a clean car, and he gets to do the fire-fighter thing with the hose.
My daughter helped me one afternoon with some new techniques I wanted to try. We were waiting around for my son to finish his karate lesson, so we took a stroll over to the courtyard fountain. She was more than willing to kick off her shoes and enjoy the water.
Watching this guy and his friend surf along the coast, you would never have known that it was a gray, stormy day in Washington and not some gorgeous summer afternoon at Zuma.
I was asked to photograph a retirement party for a Washington State Patrol officer this month. The family is Italian, so the entire event was done in pasta and pizan. These were the favors left for each guest at their place setting. Being a pizan myself, I just loved them.
The cherry trees in my front yard through the rain on my front window. A sure sign of spring if there ever was one.
I had this big plan to do a bunch of images for St. Patrick's Day. Rainbows and greenery and all that. But, time got the best of me and before I knew it, the day was upon us and I had nothing. So, I quickly grabbed a few things I had laying around and my kids helped me turn them into a rainbow of the ordinary. This was our orange.
I love watching these birds when we're at the ocean. The moment their wings take flight is just amazing to witness. I had my lens trained on this one for a while. Finally, it went, and I got it.
For the three tubs of cookie dough that my son sold during his school's fundraiser, he won a light up, spinning top. He was rather underwhelmed, but his parents thought it was way cool.
They said it was going to snow. She waited and waited. Finally, teeny, tiny little flakes started falling from the sky. She sat there and watched them until they stopped.
There are these big trees in front of the main entrance at my son's school. Their blossoms have come out and they look like these big, popcorn blooms. I took hundreds and hundreds of blossom images this month, and by the end of the month I was really feeling done, but these were too pretty to pass up.
I'm not a big beer drinker, but I do indulge in this one day in March every year....
