I actually didn't set this up. I bought a bag of conversation hearts to photograph for a Valentine's Day project. I spilled them out on my kitchen counter and started shooting away. Different angles, various perspectives....I wasn't getting what I wanted. I noticed that one of the hearts was propped up and went to move it level with the others. I stopped when I read it. Perfect. It became my motto for the month.

I shot this image of my son after we pulled into our driveway one afternoon. He'd just come back from his karate lesson and desperately wanted to get out of the car. I wanted to try photographing him through the rainy car window. I won.

My niece was born this month. This image was taken on a sunny Sunday afternoon when I went to their home to photograph her. She was two weeks old.

I found my daughter in a chair in our sunny front room reading from one of her favorite books,
Pinkalicious. I grabbed these glasses and my camera and started clicking away. The great thing is, my mother has the same picture of me, wearing my grandmother's glasses, when I was the same age.

I had a photo session at Pike Place Market at the beginning of the month. I hadn't been to the market in several years, since I worked downtown. My family went with me to scout the location and I found these tulips. It's not necessarily a phenomenal shot, but it's totally natural light. I love the color of it.

Okay, this is by far one of the most romantic things I've ever seen. This couple literally danced all the way up the shore line on Valentine's Day. It was just awesome.

I love crocus. They're always one of the first signs that the cold, gray days of winter are growing short. These crocus grow in the front garden of my son's school. He was very upset with me for climbing in and photographing them. He was just sure the principal was going to come out and take me to her office for trampling the flowers.

This is one of my other nieces. She loves to twirl. I love how her hair looks when she's doing it.

The image on the left is the beginning. The one on the right is the end...11 shots and a "You're the most handsome boy in the world" later. Never underestimate the power of a compliment.

We had to wait so long for the cherry blossoms last year. It was such a harsh winter that it was almost April before they started popping out. This year, the winter months have been much easier and the blooms began making their appearance in our neighborhood almost two months earlier than last.

On a field trip with my son to a local fire station, we were visited by a motorcycle officer. He wowed the kids by turning on his siren and flashing his lights. Using the natural light of the station, I was able to capture this glow...and may it be the only time I ever see flashing lights this close up.

I was having a tough morning. I stepped outside our home to clear my head. I loved how the raindrops were glistening off the cherry trees, and went to photograph them. During the edits, I really wasn't happy with how the images had come out, and I went back to take a few more. As I closed the front door behind me, I noticed these pine needles in our front garden, glistening beautifully in the rain.

I love antiques. The history. The story they tell. I shot this sewing machine during a session for some sewing sisters. This machine belonged to their grandmother. They guessed it dated back to the 1920's or '30s. It still works and one of the sisters actually used it while I was there to sew on a quilt that she was making.

I took several images of this fire pit. I wanted to show it growing. Reaching out. That perfect moment when it breathes in life.

We went to a birthday party for a friend. He's a beer guy and the bottles had these special labels, just for him. There were several designs, but he said that this one was his favorite. Happy birthday, Mike!
