I spent a lot of time over this past weekend playing with my camera. Really rediscovering the joy in photographing the beach. Picture after picture of the waves crashing, the gulls flying, the kids playing. I knew there would be something in there that I would be able to use for my Project 52. Something that I had so purposefully created within the lens that I could show off.
And then I read the theme for the week....Childhood Toys.
Seriously? Wh.....How.....What am I supposed to do with that? I took a look around at the mess of crap that exploded out of Toys R Us and onto the floor of our playroom and thought, No Way. Not even for an exercise in bettering myself as a photographer am I going to waste one nano-pixel on this. Forget it. I'll just use something from the beach. So what if it's not about toys? It doesn't have to be about what the sponsor suggests. That doesn't mean anything. It's just a request.
So, I started going through my beach pictures. Picking out the possibilities. Which one? Which one? And then there was this......One that I loved the moment I got it. One that I had kind of forgotten about. And one that TOTALLY fits, both my self and the sponsor's "request".
Usually when we hoof it over the dunes to the sand, the wind is meeting us with such force that we can only be out there for a few minutes.
This day, however, the day they wanted to bring out their kites, there was not one breath of a faint breeze blowing. So they stood there, fighting with the stillness of the air, throwing those kites up again and again, pulling on that string, willing it with all their might to catch hold and fly.
It never happened. So, we put them away and will save them for another day.....
