It's Mostly About The Horses

So, I'm not going to lie.  Or pretend that I'm uber-cool.  I'll just tell you.

I like John Denver.

Okay?  Fine.

I remember I used to have a kid in my class whose dad looked like John Denver.  There was this day that I was telling one of my co-teachers about a conversation that I'd had with this kid's dad, and she said,

"You mean John Denver?"

I didn't know anyone else thought that about him.  It's always nice to know you're not alone.

I always think of that when I think about John Denver.  And I really think that's it my love for John Denver that contributes to my need to drive on country roads whenever possible.  Did I say 'love'?  No.  I mean 'like'.  It's my like for John Denver.  Yeah.  'Cause otherwise, that'd be weird.  Right?  Anyway...

It's similar to my love for left-over Easter candy contributing to my need to only wear stretchy pants now.

It's fortunate because we have a lot of country roads where I live.  I wouldn't say we actually live in the country, but we can drive there from here.  Takes about 480 seconds...give or take 2 minutes.

I had errands to run yesterday.  I don't usually like to make a specific outing from the house to run errands.  If I'm going to do it, I like to do it when I'm diving mode, which is usually when I take the kids to school, but the library doesn't open until 10:00 and I had something to pick up there.  And I needed tennis shoes and shampoo.

Not from the library.  We don't have that kind of library.

So, I was out running errands and I thought I'd bring my camera along.  That's another thing I don't usually do.  I don't carry my camera with me everywhere I go.  Although, invariably, when I make a conscious decision not to bring my camera is when I'll see something that makes me say,

"Awww...I wish I'd brought my camera..."

I'm actually working on a Motherhood thing and wanted to see if I could get a few shots of mothers in my community out doing their thing with their kids, which I why I had my camera on the front seat of my car while I was driving home.

Just a side note here, if you're ever standing in the front of your school, and you see a woman pull in, jump out of her car and start photographing the trees that line the driveway, please do everyone a favor and move a little to the right so she doesn't have to crop you out later.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

I actually thought that I was done photographing the trees for spring this year.  I mean, how many pink blossoms do I need to have pictures of?

Evidently, one more.

These horses came later.  I've been wanting to try photographing them for a while, and as I was driving past, the baby was nursing from the mother and I thought it would be great for my Motherhood thing.

I pulled off the road, stopped the car, looked both ways, started across the street, dropped my keys, realized that a car was coming, tried to pick up my keys, couldn't get a hold of them, briefly considered leaving them in the middle of the road, made one more attempt at picking them up, got them, then tried to look kind of cool and nonchalant as I sprinted out of the middle of the street.

It's what I'm willing to do to get the shot.

The nursing foal ended up being kind of weird for my Motherhood thing.  Like one of those old Sesame Street skits.

"One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?"

I think it's my love for Sesame Street skits that contributes to my need to dress up like a giant bird and live in a garbage can.

And now I've gone far enough with this that I don't know how to bring it all back around and tie it up in a nice, neat, witty, quip-filled ending.  So, I'll just say have a great day and I'll check ya' later.
